How to access the NDIS Worker Orientation Module

Providers need staff that understand the principles and role of the NDIS. So, the NDIS Worker Orientation Module is an important first step for anyone starting out in the sector.

It’s also great for developing an understanding of participant rights and best practice.

The module also explains your obligations under the NDIS Code of Conduct and will take approximately 90 minutes to complete.

Without further ado, here's how to access the module with ease.

Step 1: Know your requirements

Who should do it?

This module is a must for NDIS workers who support people with disability.

This includes disability support workers, therapists, allied health professionals, and others offering personal care or assistance. It’s all about making sure participants receive the best supports and any risk of harm is minimised.

It's also helpful for other support staff within the disability sector to complete, including finance, marketing and other managers.

Employer check-in

Some disability service providers will offer this training. Always ask a potential employer if they provide the module. If the employer will set it up for you, you’ll be able to complete it before starting work.

However, completing the module before applying for a job can look good. It might make it easier and faster for the employer to onboard you, which is always a plus in a busy sector!

Step 2: Create your NDIS Commission account

Visit the website

Go to the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission's website. Click on the "Workers" tab and find the "Worker training modules and resources" section.

Set up your login

Follow the prompts to create an account. You'll need a valid email address to create a login. It's possibly worth using your personal email so your account is available across multiple employers.

Step 4: Complete the Module

The content

Dive in! Expect to learn about the NDIS philosophy, person-centred approaches, and safeguards. We love the interactive elements that make it engaging and the number of people with disability who are part of the video.

Work at your pace

Modules are self-paced. You can pause and review past sections if you want. You can even take notes within the module itself.

Certificate of Completion

Upon completion, you’ll receive a certificate. Make sure you save it somewhere safe! You can submit this to employers as proof that you've finished this valuable training.

Helpful tips

Save your login

Bookmark the web address and store your login information. You never know when you might want or need to access other NDIS Commission training or resources.

Download your certificate

Keep a copy of the certificate on your computer. You’ll likely need to provide it to any employers who are NDIS providers.

Accessibility

Options like the screen-reader-friendly versions of the module are available.

Ready to begin your exciting NDIS career?

Completing the module lays a strong foundation for your work supporting individuals with disability ensuring quality, safety and fulfilling lives.

As an NDIS worker, you’re in a position to enhance the quality of life of people with disability. That’s why it’s so important to ensure you operate within the NDIS guidelines and deliver person-centred and safe supports.
