Why volunteer?

Volunteering is a great way to give back. It also expands your skills, increases your employability and is a way to stay active and engaged in the community. There are a range of benefits to those who give their time and expertise including:

  • Making a difference in the lives of others
  • Feeling valued and part of a team
  • Meeting new people and making new friends

What volunteering opportunities are there?

Lighthouse Disability provides a range of volunteering opportunities depending on your skills, experience and interests. Our opportunities include, but are not limited to:

One-on-one social support

A social support volunteer provides companionship for one of our clients through regular visits. This may just be catching up for a coffee and a chat at a clients’ home or heading out for lunch or to go see a movie. You will be carefully matched with someone who shares similar interests and someone you are likely to build a connection with.

Gardening or maintenance

Do you have a green thumb or class yourself as a handy person? Being a gardening or maintenance volunteer means you will support our clients to maintain their gardens and home. This may include mowing the lawns, pruning, painting or other regular house maintenance.

Administration

Based at our head office in Salisbury, an administration volunteer will provide administrative support and perform general office duties. This may include data entry, typing documents, minute taking and assistance with mail outs.

Events

Lighthouse Disability hold a number of events for our clients, their families and support networks. This includes the monthly Boom Box discos, the Christmas breakfast and annual picnic. An events volunteer will provide event support including set up and set down, canteen duties and other event support as required.

What checks do I need before I volunteer?

Before you start volunteering you will be required to complete a NDIS worker screening check (free for volunteers) and complete a short induction at our head office with our Volunteer Coordinator.

How do I become a volunteer?

You can either download and fill out a volunteer application form (PDF, 440kb) and email it to volunteer@lighthousedisability.org.au or fill out an enquiry form below.
